The WWW really has a lot to answer to. There are all sorts of freaks frequenting Facebook, people brag how many 'friends' they have acquired, yet they are mostly strangers, at the very best just acquaintances. Real friendships are based on really getting to know and trust another person and you can usually count on the fingers of your two hands just how many true friends you have.

There are predators roaming all over the internet, grooming vulnerable people, then of course you have the wonderful invention of Skype. I've even been told that women give birth using Skype What a Face so that extended members of the family can watch the event. For heavens sake is nothing sacred anymore, at what lengths will some women go to just to find favour Question You really have to be mental to give birth exposing your body for all and sundry to watch. I really cannot imagine any normal person wanting to give birth in such a revolting and degrading manner. Giving birth is supposed to be a very private and joyous event experienced between two people, not for every man and his dog to be watching. I can just imagine some of the expressions the 'viewers' will be coming out with Evil or Very Mad

    Totally disagree with you, Ruby!

I can't think of anything more riveting, than to be sat at home on the sofa, with dinner on lap, while watching a second cousin's foreign wife having, say, a Tonsillectomy, or removal of Piles - live on Skype!

Have you ever watched any of those American baby story and birth programmes? It seems to be perfectly normal behaviour for dozens of people to traipse through the delivery room at will and all have a good old gawp. The expectant mother's nether regions seem to be public property. Relatives, friends, neighbours of both sexes, kids too - they're all there rooting for them, counting them through the contractions, shouting encouragement and coaching them through like they're watching a football match.

I'll always remember one programme I saw. A chap came to the delivery room door and some of the gathered onlookers parted to give the expectant mother, who was on the bed legs akimbo, sight of the door between contractions. She looked up and waved shouting "hi Bob" - it was her father in law! Everyone gets a right old eyeful. Embarassed I think it's awful. It really is unbelievable and totally alien to our culture, which is generally far more conservative. Besides, you wouldn't be allowed all those people in the delivery room here, even if you wanted them in. Most people opt for their partner and/or mother or maybe a close friend - not half their family, all their mates and most of their street!

Maybe it's little wonder that this woman didn't think there was anything remotely odd about the notion of giving birth via Skype. Giving birth virtually in public seems to be an accepted part of the culture over there. As I often say, we may share a common language with these people but they are most definitely as foreign to British people as Turks are!

    Hi Judith,

I can't think of anything more exhibitionistic than wanting anyone and everyone to gawp at you and your vagina while giving birth! Anyone prepared to lay there with a camera focused on them during SUCH a private and - what should be - a special moment in your life, clearly shows that the mother is not so much interested in the baby she's about to give birth to - she's more interested in having attention focused on herself. Star for the day!! haha

It's rather sick, actually - and only a very disturbed woman could do that!

The woman would be pig sick if she realised the voyuers watching the event were not interested in HER in any shape or form - they're just interested in watching the event.

A bit like going to the circus and watching the fat lady or the circus freak.......it's different.
