Turunc and other strange sayings!! Empty Turunc and other strange sayings!!

Thought I would share some funny moments I've had in Turkey, I will add more later. Please add your own funny moments.

Last year my son and his ladyfriend flew over to my house whilst I was in Turkey and they stayed with me for 10 days.

During their holiday I suggested we go on a boat trip, one of those day trips that go around the bays, have a barbeque lunch and a swim in the sea. I said lets go on a Monday and we can visit the market in Turunc. We booked the trip on the Marina and looked forward to our lazy day relaxing on the boat.

Now my son used to be the class joker when he was at school and got up to all sorts of antics (I gave up going to Parents Evening Mad ), even to this day he can take off people's voices and is often called into offices to do jokey 'voice overs'.

Anyway, back to the boat trip, we all had a swim and lunch and then we docked into Turunc harbour, my son said to the captain 'is this Turcrunch?', the captain looked at him for a moment and said 'no, no, this Turrrrrrrrrrrunch, Turrrr-unch, ok you understand Turrrrrr-unch'. I had to walk away as I knew my son was winding the guy up, then the captain said on his microphone 'ok, we now at Turrrrunch, Turrrrunch, we stay one hour, you swim, get drinks, go market, be back one hour later'. By now I was almost off the boat, he must of thought we were all had a hearing problem.

That very evening we were all walking along the Marina and stopped at one of the restaurants we usually go to, a new waiter approached us and said 'we now serving lunch, its lunchtime' (it was about 9pm Laughing ), my son corrected him and said it was dinner time, but the waiter said 'NO, LUNCH IS BEING SERVED'. We thought, OK this guy's had far too much sun for one day pirat

Years ago, my SIL's brother worked at a farm and there were about 20 dogs he also cared for. The brother had one favourite dog which would follow him around everywhere, the brother could not speak any English, so I asked my SIL 'what is the dog's name?'. My SIL asked his brother in Turkish and his brother replied 'Minghole' Laughing I looked at my SIL and said 'pardon' and he repeated 'Minghole' Embarassed My daughter immediately took him to one side and explained the slang word (unlike stinky minky Embarassed ), and the brother just carried on about his business blissfully unaware of our shock at his dog's name lol!
