Judith I saw that utterly ridiculous post over there, sometimes I wonder if their brains are mashed.

This woman thinks she can take a car over to Turkey, put the UK Log Book in bruvs name whom it appears resides in Turkey, leave the car there for the family to use and job done.

Now of course she has looked into the logistics of it all, its a completely different matter. Shocked

If it was that easy, Turks would be asking Brits to bring them a car instead of electronic equipment, and do you know what, some of those numpties would attempt driving over if the law allowed them to leave their UK car in Turkey. Surprised

The price of cars in Turkey are astronomical, even an old dustbin lid costs over 4K.

What I'd like to know is if these families are so bloody poor - how are they going to afford the petrol to drive the thing?! Petrol's hugely expensive in Turkey! And where are they going to drive to, anyway, if they've got no money?!

Of course, everyone knows you can't keep a British registered car in Turkey for longer than 6 months. And even keeping it in Turkey for 6 months is a giant headache - it has to be registered and logged with customs - and if it isn't taken out the country on the due date it will be impounded - and you'll be fined. Heavily. You can even go to prison for it. You can bring the car into Turkey for a (I think) a maximum of three 6 month stints - with 6 months gaps inbetween those stints - and then you can never bring the car back again (even if you're the Prime Minister) unless you pay heaps and heaps of money worth far more than the car itself.

I'm surprised people over on that numpty site aren't aware of this, considering they're all Turkophiles.

Another thing to remember is, your visa is only valid for 90 days, therefore, as the car is stamped in your passport, when you leave Turkey, the car has to leave with you. The law on Turkish visa's will be changing where you will be allowed to remain for 90 days then have to refrain from returning back to Turkey for 90 days, therefore, the only way around it is for the British person to take residency which defeats the object of the exercise.

    Hi Ruby,

Brits who have Turkish Residency can't keep their British registered cars in Turkey, either. Neither can a Turkish Citizen buy and bring a British car over to Turkey permanently.

    Hi Strawbs

Yes I understand that, I dont think I made my post very clear, what I was trying to say was that if you want to keep your car in Turkey for the full 6 months, you would have to take residency which defeats the whole point of the exercise as it would have to be removed after 6 months. As the new visa system only allows you 90 days and the car has to leave with you, you would not be allowed back in Turkey until another 90 has expired, therefore, the car could only stay a maximum of 90 days.

Im sure that if the Turks in resorts knew they could have a car from England it would be on the list with the trainers and laptops.

I can just see it now: Askim, I need the car so I have more time in bed before I go work, and I pick you up from airport (and my other girlfriends) but I need £200 to pay the petrol and I need the BMW car as it works better over here.

    Hi Ruby,

Oh sorry, I see what you mean. I didn't read your post properly......

Yes, you're right. I think your car has a passport too lol! well, sort of. The Turks put a big fat car visa stamp thingy in your passport when you bring a car in, and if you're leaving without the car the customs guy will give you one of his evil eye looks and march you off...... affraid Money, noney, money.........

But yes, if you can only stay 90 days - that applies to your car, too. Aaw shame! I think Brits with residency who have a British reg car in Turkey (only for a total of 18 months out of 36,though) have to go to all the palaver of driving it to some official government car pound if they want to pop over to the UK for a week or so - or even if they only want to pop over to Greece for a few days. Oh, and they have to give a bond of money to the Turkish authorities, which they only get back when they remove the car from Turkey.

Gamze, can you imagine all the second-hand BMW's flying up and down those winding roads if rats could get their girl of the month to bring him one over?! tongue

I hope the taxes are kept ridiculously high just so it never happens.

    Hi Teenz

I cannot see it happening for a very long time, if ever, especially with this Islamic Government being elected yet again. Also Turkey is not in the EU and the expense of taking a car over there is just not practical with the new laws coming in soon. Loved your comment about Tarkan playing and the blue eye Very Happy

Haha, Teenz! You've described that perfectly - that's excactly how it would be! lol!

I can see a convoy of them now - and they'd have little Turkish flags fluttering from the roof of the old bangers .....
with 'Kiss kiss' playing over and over and over again..........

I often wonder if these numpties actually know what Tarkan's Kiss Kiss song means Very Happy

You see these drunken fatties standing in a line dance position clapping their hands, bingo wings flapping all over the place and twirling like hippos at the appropriate moment, but they have not one clue what they are dancing to or what the lyrics (words for the challenged) of the song means.

The Kiss Kiss is actually called Simarik which roughly translated means 'apoilt', for example if a child is spoilt they are referred to as simarik cocuk. Anyway I have attached a link for our guests to view Very Happy Notice all those beautiful, slim Turkish ladies Tarkan used for the promotion of his video, not one bingo wing in site. Shocked
