    Bims Cheesecake

Post  ruby on Sat Jul 23, 2011 5:42 am

For all you cheesecake lovers out there, whilst I was in Turkey last month I purchased a frozen Strawberry Cheesecake from Bims, it was just under 8TL.

It was the best cheesecake I have ever eaten and I highly recommend that if you fancy something really yummy to eat, treat yourself to a Bims cheesecake.

Does anyone else have any recommendations from any of the Turkish shops which we can all share?

    Hey, you've reminded me, Ruby!

When Ertie and I went to Marmaris for the weekend we popped over to Icmeler and had Sunday lunch there. We found a restaurant run by a Turkish woman along the canal, I think it was called something like Turkish Home Kitchen? Something like that. Anyway, we had a nice meal in there, and she insisted we try her homemade lemon cheesecake. It was delicious! It wasn't the American style cheesecake (which I do like, anyway) it was the proper Jewish cheesecake, which as you'll probably know is quite different to the American cheesecake. It's much drier in texture (kind of crumbly yet moist) and has raisins dotted in it. It also has loads of lemon zest, so the lemony flavour is really wonderful, and it has a sponge type base. Oh, it's so nice! I can see me breaking my diet today now! Shocked

Anyway, that's well worth visiting just for the cheesecake. And she was a lovely lady (slightly Hyacinth Bouquet Turkish style Very Happy ) and because we loved the cheesecake so much she cut us two large slices, and wrapped them in foil to take with us back to Fethiye! How sweet is that?!

Highly recommended - if she's still there! Very hard to get hold of Jewish cheesecake...............

    Hi Strawbs

I cannot place the restaurant you mention in Icmeler, but then every year lots of these restaurants change hands.

As I have mentioned before, when you go to Turkey later this year, you and Ertie are welcome to stay at my house in Marmaris, it is in a lovely typically Turkish area and the garden is surrounded by grapevines, plumb, lemon and orange trees with balconies on all three floors and a large swing couch on the ground floor balcony, ideal for relaxing with an ice cold drink and reading whilst sunbathing. My neighbours are all Turkish and very friendly, and it is just a stones throw from Tansas, the Marina and Mehmet will organise a car for you to sightsee.

Oh Ruby, that is so kind of you! Your house sounds idyllic I love you

Of course, I'm somewhat concerned that the Turkish authorities may have banned me from entering their shores, what with complaining about some of their scumbag sleazeballs and samey menus. Can they ban you for that? I'm REALLY worried! clown

The image I have in my head is of you getting stopped at Passport Control at Dalaman by an Officer with a tampon stuck up his nose Very Happy lol! and him trying to explain to you in broken lispy English hampered by the tampon as he tries to draw breath by telling you off for disrespecting his Country folk lol!

Just give him a sexy wink of the eye and promise him a mobile the next time you visit.

One word of warning, when you get out of the airport they have moved the road where the taxis park and the downhill ramp is a killer, I nearly had to let go of my trolley and let it make its own journey downhill as I could hardly hold onto it. I ended up running with this overloaded trolley and Mehmet had to catch hold of it at the bottom. Good bloody job too, didnt want my alcohol bottles to get smashed Very Happy and he was worried about his chocolate lol!
