    Akyaka Beach Empty Akyaka Beach

Post  ruby Fri Jul 22, 2011 4:55 am

Another tip for people holidaying in Marmaris, is try a day out and go to Akyaka. Its about 30 mins from Marmaris, and well worth a visit. The beach is wonderful, real sand and palm trees lined along the beach. Further along the beach there is a National Park.

The beach is scattered with tavernas which will serve you on the beach. It is typically Turkish, not many foreign tourists go there, during the summer months the local school take the children to swim in the sea which is gently shelving and the water is warm.

It is a real gem of a place to visit and I highly recommend it. Anyone else been there?

    Hi
I went there this year after it being recommended by friends ( they said it was a nice quiet beach to relax and get away from the Chavvy types you find on Icmeler/Marmaris beaches ) , and to be honest I found it a horrible place to vist. It was dirty looking, very scruffy and not very welcoming Exclamation . Your packed on the beach like sardine's, as the front sunbeds are only reserved for the few hotels along the front it can get very caustiphopic(sp)further back.
The water is very calm and you can walk out a long way but then it's roped off so you cant get away from the hoards of people standing around in the water to beable to have a good swim No .
It was like a Chavvy Turkish day out, we only stayed about 2 hours and got a taxi straight back.

    Hi Denny

Wow, I am surprised at your unfortunate experience.

I did not visit Akyaka when I went to Turkey in June, but I am going back over in August, so will be definitely be taking a trip out there. I do hope it has not been spoilt like Marmaris and Icmeler. Wonder if the Tourist Agencies are now including it in their brochures and taking coaches of day trippers out there. I hope not.

I have visited this beach many many times and never have I had a bad experience. Even in high season I have never seen it packed, its mainly used by Turks on holiday from Izmir, Istanbul etc, they take picnics and they always share their food with you.

I usually sweet talk the guy who sells the council sunbeds and he always finds me a spot near to the sea. The bar waiters have always given excellent service, whether you use their sunbed(which is usually free) or the councils sunbeds.

Yes there is a rope which prevents swimmers from going too far out from the beach, but in my opinion it is far enough out anyway and its there so that strong swimmers dont go too far out and get in the way of passing boats.

I use that beach as the grandchildren love to build sandcastles and I know the sea is warm and shelves gently.

Pollypecker, glad to read your update that the beach was empty in May.
